Opposites attract. The combination of ceramics and textiles is central to my work, being an innovative way of interpreting my drawings. The inspiration comes from organic forms such as Physalis, Love in the Mist seed heads and textural foliage.
The vessels are extruded to create the forms. This process creates natural curves and twists, forming individual pieces every time. Once the vessels are glazed and sandblasted, my drawings are translated onto the work by using the rich colour palette of dyed merino wool, thread and twine.
The contrasts between ceramics and textiles, between softness, texture and strong lines, are key to my work. Each vessel is unique in form and colour, yet each also sits as part of a collection. These ‘families’ of tubes can be used as functional vessels or simply as interesting objects.
